A chair is a very difficult object

A skyscraper is almost easier. That is why Chippendale is famous.
- Ludwig Mies van der Rohe

He who works with his hands is a laborer.

He who works with his hands and his head is a craftsman. But he who works with his hands, his head, and his heart is an artist.
- Saint Francis of Assisi

Authentic. Functional. Furniture.

Veteran-made craftsmanship in Virginia. I design and build custom furniture from my workshop studio in Arlington, Virginia. Yes, really, bespoke furniture in Northern Virginia. I use local hardwoods to build sustainable furniture, and give trees a second life as functional art. All furniture you see on this site can be customized for you – size and wood species; live-edge or straight-edge. I delivered 14' long statement dining tables all over these United States, and can design, build, and deliver a statement piece to you.

Every piece of furniture I make is born from sustainable East Coast hardwoods. You can be as involved as you would like in the furniture making process – from picking out slabs at the kiln to watching the build process. I combine futuristic carbon fiber to accent the timeless warmth of classic hardwoods such as cherry, maple, and walnut to make beautiful furniture. This is Future Primitive woodworking. I build chairs, tables, hostess gifts, cutting boards, display boards, benches, chests, children’s toys, clocks, chests, and custom built-in cabinetry. My furniture is authentic. I let the wood dictate the outcome with live edges, irregular wood pattern curls, checks, and other one-of-a-kind natural traits. My furniture is functional. Please sit in one of my chairs. I combine classical and modern woodworking techniques to ensure lifetimes of form and function in these pieces.

My Work

<strong>Rocking Chair</strong>

Rocking Chair
This is the most comfortable chair you will ever sit in. The end. Near Fredricksburg, Virginia lives Hal Taylor - my rocking chair coach. You could learn about complex curvilinear joinery, or the proper way to employ Pi to caclulate the rocker radius and leg lengths. Or, just sit in the most comfortable chair you ever sat in, and hold on to this heirloom piece for several generations to come.
<strong>River Table</strong>

River Table
A river table highlights a piece of glass atop it to fit within a recessed section. In this ambrosia maple coffee table, a piece of 3/8" Azuria (cool green) hand-cut glass is used to mimic a river running through the maple banks. The live-edges under the glass show nature's irregularities while the outsides of the wood have clean, straight-edge cuts with a tasteful 1/8" reveal separating the solid 2" top from its 1.5" thick base.
<strong>206 Chest</strong>

206 Chest
This curly cherry chest of drawers is an heirloom piece. There are 206 dovetails in this chest, ranging from stunning (sides joined to top), to the subtle (drawer stretchers), to the hidden, to the expected (drawer fronts and backs), to the deceptively-complex (the base’s double-mitered through dovetails to fakie). You will see the concepts of Continuation of Form in the drawers’ graduating heights and the drawer pulls’ graduating widths.
